St. Joseph Parish Council Meeting

Minutes of April 24 meeting approved.
Father McGuinness opened the meeting with a prayer.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
FINANCE: No report
MAINTENCENCE: No report
STEWARDSHIP: No report
COMMUNICATIONS: Pete reported that Communications Committee is investigating publication of a parish directory this fall. The committee is also working on a parish needs statement, covering both current and future needs.
LITURGY: Carolyn reported on concerns expressed about no music being played at the Hispanic First Communion Mass. Father said that the first Children’s Mass held Saturday at 4 p.m. went well.
SCHOOL PRINCIPAL SEARCH COMMITTEE: Pete reported that the committee is placing ads in national trade publications. St. Joseph’s School will have an interim principal next year.
SITE COMMITTEE: Chet noted that the committee is looking at the sites suggested by the Planning Committee.
OLD BUSINESS:
NURSERY: Todd reported that the nursery flooded in the recent rains, but no other updates were available.
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH RECOGNITION: Todd said First Baptist Church has picked a spot for our gift of a tree. He will meet tomorrow with the arborist about planting it.
SAFETY/SECURITY ISSUES: Pete reported that the bare wires in Father’s office will be covered this week. In addition, the front door lock will be replaced and a limited number of keys for it will be made.
HOUSING SEARCH: Nothing new to report. The search continues.
STEPHEN’S MINISTRY: June said Debby Moriarity and Linda Eberenz will go to Orlando in June for Stephen’s Ministry training. The Knights of Columbus has donated $1,000 from art sale for their travel.
SISTERS’ APPRECIATION PROJECT: Dana stated that next weekend’s 11:45 Mass will honor the Sisters with a celebration taking place on the school grounds immediately following the Mass. The celebration includes a cookout and music. The event is free, although free tickets are required for the cookout so planners will be able to estimate attendance. All are encouraged to bring homemade or bakery-made “finger food” desserts to share.
NEW BUSINESS:
REPLACING COMMITTEE MEMBERS: June mentioned that, with the rotation in parish council members next month, new Parish Council representatives will be needed for the Planning, Liturgy, and Site Selection Committees.
EUCHARISTIC CONFERENCE: The Conference is June 4 at the Georgia World Conference Center in Atlanta. Rosemary and Chet will work on getting bus transportation to the Center.
ALAN AMES NIGHT: Alan Ames will lead a healing service at St. Joseph’s June 6. June reported that everything is on track for the event.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Father noted that the men’s Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) weekend will be May 20-22. Plans for the Fall Festival will need to be developed over the summer. Thanks were extended to June Compton, Chet Malanoski, Carolyn McFall, and Louise Benjamin for their service on the Parish Council.
